Vacation Part One: Great Barrier Reef

Finally getting around to blogging about my vacation.  This felt like the first real vacation that I have taken since…..high school?  In the past I’ve usually considered scientific conferences to be vacations or used vacation time to visit family instead.  Maybe a weekend away here or there, but this time I actually took a full 2.5 weeks of vacation (which is a lot for someone from the U.S.) to visit Australia & Bali in August.

I’ve broken the trip into multiple parts:

Part One:  Great Barrier Reef

Part Two:  Port Douglas

Part Three:  Stranded in Palm Cove

Part Four:  Mandala Magic Retreat in Ubud

I started my vacation by flying to Cairns, QLD so that I could spend 3 days aboard a boat and snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef.  I went with Pro Dive Cairns & it was a great experience!  The crew were friendly, I got to snorkel tons & I got to eat all of my favorite British foods 🙂

I created a number of mandalas while aboard:
